JIM BOGNET TO COWARDLY CARTWRIGHT: “LET’S LOOK VOTERS IN THE EYE AND TELL THEM WHAT WE’VE DONE AND WHAT WE SEEK TO DO”
HAZLETON- Two weeks ago Republican Congressional candidate Jim Bognet challenged Matt Cartwright to five debates, in five counties, on five television stations. Cartwright agreed to one debate in late October and claimed that he did not have time to do more.
Interestingly, in 2012 it was Matt Cartwright who challenged his opponent, then-Congressman Tim Holden, to six debates, one in each county. In fact, here is what Cartwright said:
“Clearly, a thirty-second television ad is a horrible way to communicate. Let’s look voters in the eye and tell them what we’ve done and what we seek to do, and if we can’t, because of scheduling and travel restrictions, let’s use our best technology.”
Holden rejected Cartwright’s challenge claiming that he didn’t have time.
“Why does Matt Cartwright continue to run and hide? Maybe it is because he has not accomplished anything for the people of Northeast Pennsylvania,” said Bognet.
“The 2012 version of Cartwright was correct – voters need more than 30 second ads to decide who they are going to select as their representative in Congress. I reiterate my challenge to Cartwright using his own words ‘Let’s look voters in the eye and tell them what we’ve done and what we seek to do.’ Join me on the debate stage 5 times, in 5 counties, on 5 televisions stations.”
